"You'll Need This Later" is the debut release from composer/songwriter and drummer, Alvin Cobb, Jr., centered around a conversation with his younger self. Over the past 15 years, Alvin has been writing notes and leaving voice memos for himself, eventually gathering about a dozen of those diary entries and creating musical compositions/songs for each one. The album covers numerous topics including love, family, and a 2014 car accident that could have easily ended his music career. All of the music is performed by the Alvin Cobb, Jr. Trio, consisting of bassist/vocalist Katie Ernst and pianist Julius Tucker. They are joined by a few of Chicago's rising stars, such as Nola Adé, Nashon Holloway, Manasseh, Morgan Pirtle, and Aaron Day. Imran MIrza of Blue-In-Green Radio in London, UK, stated, "...no doubt that 'You'll Need This Later' is an album people will be coming back to for years."
